すると、なーんと、こんな衝撃的ニュースが！
米テキサス州のとあるゴルフ場で、前の組のスロープレーに耐えかねた男性が「お前を道徳的に殺す義務がある」と言って前の組の一人に銃を向けたそうなのです！「紳士」のスポーツで前代未聞の出来事です。
事件が起きたのはテキサス州の「ライオンズ・ミュニシパル・ゴルフ・コース」というパブリックコース。エドウィン・デイリーさん（73歳）は前の組でプレーしていたマット・ネイダーさんと彼の友達2名があまりにもスロープレーをしていたため、9番ホールで注意をしたそうなのです。
デイリーさんの供述によると、デイリーさんはネイダーさんらにもっと早くプレーし、カートを指定された場所に止めるよう忠告したのです。その後、数ホールに渡って口論は続き、プレーを終えた両組は駐車場で再会したのです。
駐車場で再び口論になったため、「危険を感じた」デイリーさんは車から銃を取り出してネイダーさんに銃口を向けたそうなのです。3名は慌てて車の背後に隠れ、警察に通報したそうなのです。
デイリーさんは銃を隠し、クラブハウスに戻ったとのこと。ネイダーさんがまだ警察と話している時にデイリーさんが再び駐車場に戻ってきて、
「私が危険だと感じれば、お前を道徳的に殺す義務がある」
と吐いたそうなのです。このデイリーさん、顔はこんな感じです。

デイリーさんはクラブハウスを出た近くの公道で凶器による加重暴行および重犯罪容疑で逮捕。150,000ドル（約150万円）の保釈金で釈放されたとのことです。
デイリーさん（よりによって、あの人と同じ名前w）、スコアが悪かったのか、はたまた私生活で苛立ちが溜まっていたのか...。何をもって「道徳的に」と言ったのかは不明ですが、少なくともスロープレーを巡って銃を突きつける人に「道徳」を語ってほしくないものです。加害者も被害者も「マナー」を心得ていれば起こらなかったトラブルなのではないでしょうか。
それにしても150万円の釈放金だけでこのような男が再びゴルフ場に来るかもしれないと思うと恐ろしいですよね。
自分がスロープレーちをしていないと思っても、後ろで待っている方からすると苛々するのかもしれないし、ついつい「もう大丈夫でしょ！？」と打ち込んでしまうのかもしれないですしね・・・。個人的には、少し前に米軍基地でプレーしている時、間違って（前にいるのが見えなくて）ティショットを打ち込んでしまったことがあります。しかも（珍しく）ナイスショットでフェアウェイに立っていた軍人さん2名にもうちょっとで当たってしまいそうになったことが・・・。
次のティグラウンドで追いついて「さっきはソーリー」と言ったら、はち切れんばかりの二の腕をしていた黒人の軍人さんが「大丈夫、大丈夫♪」と笑顔でニッコリ。その笑顔に撃たれた気分でした。
ゴルファーなら、最低限のマナーを・・・。
