ちょっと海外ネタからは外れますが、気になっていたことなので書いておこうかと。
最近、毎日のように某ゴルフ小売会社からメルマガが飛んできます。
「【本日より最大58％OFF】スリクソンZR800ドライバーが29,800円」
「本日7：00より「タイムセール開催」･･･」
「2万円を切った！「キャロウェイ ハイパーXドライバー」が強烈値下げ！」
「強烈値下げ」って・・・。ネットのゴルフ業界を引っ張るべくG社が悲鳴を上げているのが容易に想像できます。メルマガのリンクをクリックしてみると・・・売れていない。結構悲惨な状態。
例年に比べ、新商品の値下げが早く且つ大幅に安くなっていると思うのは僕だけでしょうか。最近、アイアンとドライバーを探していて店舗にも行きます。先日、新橋の某ショップに足を運んできました。18時過ぎの新橋。サラリーマンの帰り道でごった返していると思ったらガラガラでした。店員がパッティングの練習してました。
「これが今のゴルフ業界の現実なのかもしれない...」
モノが売れない。モノを買えない、と言った方が正しいのか。ボーナス商戦で苦しむメーカーはゴルフ業界だけに限らず、むしろ売れているのは政府の補助金（商品券）が出るエコカーと電化製品（液晶テレビ）。Yahoo!ショッピングでも売れている商品は「SALE!」の赤文字が付いている安価商品で、高額なものはさっぱりだとか。百貨店の売上低迷もこの大きな流れに沿っているのでしょう。
実際に消費者が買う場所（小売店）より苦しんでいるのがメーカーでしょう。某外資系ゴルフ用品メーカーに務める知人から先日メールが来ました。「今年はやばい」と。昨年（一昨年？）、クリーブランドがスリクソンに買収されましたが、ひょっとするとゴルフ業界も大きな転換期を迎えようとしているのかもしれません。メーカーが新規開発への投資ができなくなると一般ゴルファーへは還元されない。一方、プロツアーをスポンサーしている企業も撤退の動きが加速。活況だった一昨年までの「貯金」を使い果たし一巡してしまうと、ゴルフ業界が徐々にデフレスパイラルに吸い込まれていくような気がします。石川遼がどうこうできるレベルの問題ではないです。
一方で、毎日インターネットに繋がっているとその技術とそれに携わる人たちの知恵は日々進化し続けています。最近話題のTwitterも徐々にではありますが日本でも認知され始めていますし、アメリカでは追随すべく類似サービスが次から次へと開発されてます。そして先日、Googleによる無料OS「クローム」の提供が発表されました。
マイケル・ジャクソン追悼式では、myspaceがネットでライブ中継と即時再放送を慣行。テレビ界の大御所CNNが「局開設以来最大のイベント」と題した番組内容をテレビより高画質で－そして、なにより無料で！－提供してしまったのです。これはネット住人たちにとっては歴史的快挙でした。歴史が動く瞬間をネットが中継をしたのです。
後退するゴルフ業界。進化するネットメディア業界。このギャップに違和感を感じるのは僕だけではないかもしれません。後退しているのはゴルフ界だけではありませんが、毎日ネット上でゴルフ業界の情報をかき集めていると、なぜかそこに突き当たるのです。
このサイトが一役買えるとしたら何か？
そんな大それたことを日々自問自答していると、以前ネット企業に勤める友人の高杉（仮）が書いたブログエントリーを思い出しました。
この一言、個人的にとても響きました。ネットを使っていると「ネットで調べればいい」「ネットでDLすればいい」など、クオリティーの高いサービスでも無料が当たり前の文化だから「貰えばいいのさ」という感覚に陥っていることに気付きました。しかし、長い目で見るとネット文化の発展には決して貢献しないメンタリティーなのです。それでメシが食えない人が生まれるのです。好きだからやっていたものができなくなってしまう悲劇が生まれるのです。
情報サイトを運営していて一つ思うのは、買い「支える」ことと同時に与えることで「支えていく」バランスが大事なのかな、と。矛盾しているかもしれません。例えば、僕はGIHを更新する時にYouTubeの動画やあらゆるサイトから「画像」をDLして掲載しています。これは間違っているのか？DLじゃなくて買うべきか？そうかもしれません。いや、きっとそうなのでしょう。
ただし、仮に法的に間違っていたとしても、僕は正しいことをやっていると思っています。
なぜなら、僕はGIHを通じて
海外ゴルフ文化を広めるメディアを目指したいから
メディアだから何でも許されるという意味ではありません。もっと究極を言うと、
タイガー・ウッズが毎年日本に来たくなるような日本のゴルフ文化を構築するメディアを目指しているから
です。恐らく、僕が生きている間（約40～50年？）にタイガーを越えるゴルファーは現われないでしょう。それ以上に、タイガーの現役生活があと何年なのか・・・。そう長くはないような気がします。
100年に1人出現するかしないかの逸材が毎年日本に来て、ジュニアにレッスンをして、優勝して、メディアに出て・・・。考えるだけでワクワクしますが、そのためには今からできることがあるとすれば、日本のゴルファーの見識を広め、世界中のゴルフ文化・情報を取り入れるべきなのでは、と。
そんなことを考えながら運営している、と一杯やりながら語っていたある日。某誌のカメラマンと白熱した議論になったことがあります。
「お前がやっていることは違法だ。
カメラマンの権利侵害だ」
「分かってる。そして、百歩譲ってその法的スタンスは受け入れる。
ただし、もし、何かの間違いで、本当に何かの間違いが重なって、
もし、俺がこれをやり続けることで誰かの目に止まり、
タイガーが毎年宮崎に来れるようになったとしよう。
その結果として石川遼のようなプロゴルファーが
毎年のように出てくる環境が日本にできるきっかけになったとしよう。
メーカーの売上が右肩上がりになったとしよう。
それでもお前は俺がやっていることが『違法』と言うか？」
「・・・」
「大丈夫、その頃には誰かが合法な手段をネットで開発してくれてるからw」
そうなってから言え、というのが大人の意見でしょう。ただ、そのような声に正義があるかというと・・・。僕はないと思います。
最近、ドラマ「24」のシーズン7を見始めて改めて思うのは「後悔をしない選択」を取り続けたい、ということ。ジャックは誰かに止められようとすると何度もこのセリフを吐きます。
I don't care. I am doing what is best for the people of this country.
（関係ない。俺はこの国の人たちにとっての最善を尽くす。）
バウアーはドラマの世界。でもそれに近い、バランスのある「正義感」は日本のゴルフメディアにもあっていいと思う。例えば、雑誌で言うなら、赤字覚悟でルーカス・グローバーを表紙に持ってきてもいいと思う。
先月、とあるイギリスの大学教授とお会いした時、彼はこう言っていました。
「日本のゴルフ雑誌はつまらない。全部、石川遼。全部、同じようなレッスン。同じギア」
似たような感覚を僕も抱いています。
所信表明ではないですが、現状のゴルフ業界のことを考慮し、これからもっと積極的に取り入れて行きたい考え方を整理すると・・・
１．「買い支える」ことを手伝って行きたい
最終アウトプットとしては「アフィリエイト」になるのかもしれませんが、「良いものは良い、悪いものは悪い」と言えるメディアとしてのスタンスを確立していきたい。
特に、日頃書いているPGAツアーの商品や日本ではあまり見ない商品などを中心に紹介する「SHOPPING」コーナーを開設したいな、と。
２．受身であり続けるのではなく、共有していきたい
手前味噌ですが、最近、GIHのネット上でのプレセンスが徐々に大きくなってきている気がしています。検索のキーワード、はたまた、会ったことも見たこともなかった「インドネシア ジャカルタジェイピープル」という全く無縁に見えるサイトの管理人のご好意でリンクを貼っていただいたり（j-people.net管理人様、ありがとうございます！）。初歩的ですが、こういう人と人の繋がりって最高に嬉しい瞬間だったりします。
今までは集客力を増やすために自棄になっていたところもあります（はい！）。ただ、これからは来ていただいた人たちにも多くを共有していきたいと思います。これも「支えあう」という原点に戻っています。
僕が日頃から参考にしている（お世話になっている）ゴルフ関連の面白い記事やサイトを定期的に紹介して（リンクして）行きたいと思います。
３．（ちょっとした）正義感
