先日紹介したタイガー・ウッズのキャディ、スティーブ・ウィリアムズの暴言。つい先日、タイガーの復帰は「ツアーにとって何よりも喜ばしいこと」と言っていたフィル・ミケルソンだったのだが、いざご対面となると・・・
やはり目には見えない大きな壁ができてしまっているようです。

練習日の火曜日早朝、6:30。練習ラウンドは誰よりも早くコースに出ることで有名なタイガーを大勢のカメラマン、記者、そして一般のギャラリーが今か今かとキングの登場を待っていた。
しかし最初に練習場に現われたのはミケルソンのキャディ、「ボーンズ」ことジム・マッケイだった。
「これは面白いことになりそうだね」
つぶやきながらミケルソンのためにボールの入った籠とバッグを担いできたマッケイ。日が昇り始めると最初に現われたのはタイガーではなくミケルソンだった。まずはウエッジから、ハーフスウィングで打ち始めた。
数分後、騒がしくなった。タイガー入場。音で分かっていたにも関わらず、ミケルソンは振り返りもせず、またタイガーが歩み寄って声を掛けることはなかった。直後、ミケルソンのコーチ、ブッチ・ハーモンが慌ててミケルソンの元に駆けつけた。硬い握手。
15分後、タイガーはコースに出て行ったが、この時もお互い見合わせることはなかった。

それにしても、二人とも「気まずい」空気作りますね〜・・・。大人なんだから終わったことは終わったことで握手して仲直りすればいいとも思えますが、ミケルソンにもプライドがあるのでしょう。はたまた、「タイガー、必死でトレーニングしてるのはお前だけじゃないぞ!」という姿を見せ付けたかったのでしょうか。
