先週、タイガー・ウッズが自身3つ目となるコース設計の計画を発表した。1つ目はドバイ、2つ目は米ノースカロライナ州、そして今回発表された3つ目は、メキシコのプンタ・ブラバという海岸沿いに大リゾートを建設するとのこと。
本来であれば本業（試合）に取られていた時間をリハビリ中の今は有効的に使っているのであろう。「多くを手がけるつもりは全くない。本当に特別と感じる幾つかのロケーションのみ」と、ジャック・ニクラウスやグレッグ・ノーマンなどのようにプレーヤー兼コースデザイナーになるつもりはないと断言。
「まず、そんな時間、僕にはない」
ドバイの「The Tiger Woods Dubai」と名づけられたプロジェクトには、「アル・ルワンヤ」というゴルフ場を中心にリゾート、ホテル、スパなど最高級リゾートが来年開設される予定だ。自分の名前が刻まれるものには徹底的に拘るタイガー。
「コースデザイナーとしても、彼は完璧主義者だ」と、タイガーに付き添った者は言う。実際、2時間あまりかけてコースとなる砂地を一周し、図面を見ながら「4番ホールのフェアウェイバンカーの位置は全体のバランスを考えると左ではなく右にあるべき」と具体的に提言もしたという。
来年もドバイに行く機会がありそうなので、プレーはできなくても雰囲気だけでも味わってみたい。お金があれば回って...誰だってそうですよね!
そのドバイの設計コースの進捗状況を語っている動画があったので紹介しておきます。
そして、驚いたのがつい先日発表されたメキシコ海岸沿いの土地開発。「土地」ではない。もはや「海」開発に近い!
2011年に開設予定だが、既にプンタ・ブラバの公式HPが公開されていて、そこにはタイガーが崖の上に立ち、海を見下ろしている映像を見ることができる。(ホーム⇒PLAY⇒Tiger Woods⇒Watch Film で再生されます)
本当にこんなところにゴルフ場ができるのか!?と思わず目を疑ってしまうが、恐らく海を少しずつ埋め立てていくのだろう。場所はカリフォルニア州サンディエゴから南に110キロほどの海岸で、立地は文句なしだろう。総建設費は100億円。全てのホールから海を眺めることができるゴルフ場、クラブハウス、ホテル、スパ、そして40件ほどの別荘。別荘は安くて3億円、高いもので12億円とのこと。現地までのアクセスは車、船、または近くに用意される飛行場に自家用機で来れるようにする。
このご時世、誰が買うんだろう...ハリウッドスター、リーマン・ブラザーズの元役員クラスなのかな。。。この男の手にかかってしまえば、不動産バブルとか関係ないんですねw
