嫌な予感が的中してしまった。先日のエントリーで、メルセデス選手権で好スタートを切った今田竜二は「ムービングデイ次第では」上位進出が可能とと書いたが、そのムービングデイが命取りとなってしまった。

第2ラウンドを終えて4位タイにいた今田だったが、3日目に大崩。ザック・ジョンソンが9アンダー、その他上位陣も順調にスコアを伸ばした中、今田は33選手中最低となる1オーバーの「74」でラウンド、一気に18位まで後退した。最終日には再び3つ伸ばしたものの、通算9アンダー、18位タイでホールアウトし、絶好のスタートを切っていただけに少々後味の悪い2009年初戦となってしまった。
基本中の基本ですが、結局はPGAツアーで勝つためには2つのメンタルなタフさが必要なんだと改めて思った。
１．試合を「締める」強さ
２．3日目に「伸ばせる」強さ
日本のツアーでは最終日に崩れる選手が結構多いですが（宮里Y作...）、PGAツアーに集う世界トップクラスの選手たちの多くは最終日をリードして向かえた場合、そのまま後続を振り切る強さをもっている。それも3日目にリード広げる強さがあってのこと。タイガー・ウッズが最たる例だろう。韓国の選手たちと比べて日本の選手には「ハングリーさが足りない」と良く言われているが、これも結局は上記2点に尽きるのではないかと、個人的には思っている。
そこで、今田竜二が本当に強い選手になってもらうためのスタッツ集めとして（この数字が何の役目を果たすのかは愚問w）、今田の2009年第3ラウンド「ムービングデイ」のデータを集めて行きたいと思う。その週に優勝した選手とのスタッツと比較するのも面白いかもしれない。
