前回も書いた通り、お金とネットが大好きなので片山晋呉のマスターズでの獲得賞金のことをいろいろと調べていたらこんな事実も出てきました。
マスターズのHPで各選手のプロフィールページがあるのですが・・・

その中の「Past Masters Results（過去のマスターズ成績）」というのをクリックしますと・・・
このように年度別の成績と獲得賞金額が出てくるのです。これは片山晋呉のこれまでの成績表で今年のものはまだ反映されていないのですが、
お気付きでしょうか・・・
予選通過してない年に5,000、10,000ドルもらっているではありませんか！？
ちょいちょいちょいちょい。。。参加するだけでお金がもらえるの！？しかも100万円も！？石川遼のプロフィールページには「Past Masters Results（過去のマスターズ成績）」のリンクがなく最新情報が更新されていません。ただし、例年とおりであれば、石川遼は予選通過をしなくても10,000ドル（約100万円）をもらっていたことになります。
ということで、ここまできたら徹底的に調べてやろうと思い、更に昔の新聞の記事やネットの荒波の深い方まで泳いでいったみたところ、衝撃の事実が判明しました。
augusta.comというサイトの2005年の記事「Behind the scenes: Big money takes focus off purses」にこう綴られています。

The Masters, of course, doesn't fall into that category. Augusta National Golf Club is the favorite course of many players. Plus, the Masters is an invitational tournament and the only full-field event on the PGA Tour that pays players who miss the cut ($5,000).

そうだったんですね・・・。予選落ちのある大会で、全員に賞金が配れる大会って他にもあるのでしょうか？WGC（世界ゴルフ選手権）やツアー選手権などは予選カットがないので、全員が賞金を獲得します。今年のはじめに少し話題になりましたが、タイガー・ウッズは出場せずにメルセデス選手権で650万円稼いだという珍事もありました。
でもマスターズは予選落ちがあるわけですし、なんぼ叩いても賞金が出るというのはいかがなものなのでしょうか・・・。恐らくオーガスタ周辺で家を借りるだけでそれくらいのお金は吹っ飛んでしまうとは思うのですが、これも「招待」を売りにしているマスターズ委員会からの「出張手当」みたいなものなのでしょうかw
ちなみに、この「参加金」は日本ツアーの獲得賞金には含まれていないようです。昨年の片山晋呉の獲得賞金一覧を見ても、マスターズの参加金10,000ドルは加算されていませんでした。
