16日から開始される予選会は、カリフォルニア州のミッションヒルズで開かれる。当時13歳だったウィがクラフトナビスコ選手権の最終日最終組で回り、初めてスポットライトを浴びた大会だった。自身の伝説（大げさかな...）が始まった会場で、新たなスタートを切ることとなる。
164名が登録しているミッションヒルズでのQTは16、17日の2ラウンドの後に予選カットがあり、木曜日、金曜日の2ラウンドをショアーコースでプレーする。最終的にはトップ30名が12月、フロリダ州デイトナビーチで行われるQT最終予選会に進出することができる。ウィ以外には、幼少期の骨髄の難病を乗り越え、今年の全米女子オープンでは最終日まで観客を沸かせたステイシー・ルイスもこの予選会に出場する。
ウィにとっては、まずこの予選会でトップ30名に残って年末の最終予選会に自信をつけることが最も大事なのではないだろうか。彼女がいるのといないのでは、LPGAの盛り上がり（＝収益）もかなり左右されるわけだし・・・。最近、色々と取りざたされているLPGAも、ウィにはしっかりと予選を突破して来季はできるだけ多くの試合に出場して欲しいと思っているに違いない。
