これでウィのPGAツアー挑戦は8度目となるが、未だに予選を通過したことはない。微かな望みが持てるのは、先週の「ステートファームクラシック」で失格になるまでの3日間はバーディを量産し良いプレーをしていたこと（セッティングは女子の大会なので男子とは異なるが...）。加えて、レノ・タホオープンは世界選手権のWGCブリヂストンインビテーショナルの「裏大会」であり、強豪勢は全てWGCに出場することだ。

男子ツアーに挑戦する志は応援したいが、心配な点が一つある。それは来年以降、主戦場であるはずの米LPGAツアーでの出場が危ういことだ。
今年はLPGA出場資格を持っていないため、7試合の推薦者枠出場に限られている。既に6戦を消化し、残るチャンスはあと1回。賞金ランキング80位以内に入らないと、QT（クオリファイング・トーナメント）を通過しての出場権獲得となる。先月の全米女子オープンでは「クオリファイングは学校のスケジュールと衝突するので、たぶん行かない」と言っている。となると、残り1回の出場で恐らく80,000ドル、順位にして3位以内に入ることが絶対条件となる。その最終戦は8月のCNカナディアンオープンになりそうだ。もし、賞金ランキングで80位以内に入らなければ仕方なくQTに出てくるのだろうか・・・。いずれにしろ、残されたチャンスは1回なわけで、その試合に焦点を合わせていかなければいけないことに変わりない。
先週のサイン漏れといい、これまで決していい流れでは来ていない。ここで男子ツアーの大会に背伸びをして出場することは決してプラスに働かないのではないかと思ってしまう。これまでにウィも実感しているように、男子と女子ツアーでは雲泥の差がある。セッティングも数倍厳しい。そんな中、もしも最下位近くに低迷してしまい自信を失くし、体力を消耗してしまうよりかは、万全の態勢でカナディアンオープンに標準を合わせた方が良いのではないか・・・。そう思ってしまう。
ウィは実力もあり豪快なゴルフで観客を魅了できるプレーヤーだと思う。観客の目を惹くビジュアルもある。それだけに来年以降の女子ツアー出場権を何としてでも獲得して、ツアーにフル参戦してもらいたい。
それ故に、今回の決断は少し心配してしまう・・・。
