ビジュアルも名前もアジア（韓国）系だが彼はアメリカ人。４月のワコビア選手権でツアー初優勝を挙げると、いつもニコニコしたその陽気なキャラが多くのファンに受け入れられた。それにしても、タイガーの大会で、タイガーが留守の間に（タイガーの分までナイキの宣伝をした）キムのような若きスターが登場したことが、このツアーの奥深さを象徴しているような気がする。
最終日、３打差でスタートしたキム。前半でバーディを重ねると、後半に入った時点で既にトップに立っていた。ホールアウト時にはまだ数組回っていたが、既に勝負はついていた。ピンをデッドに狙うアイアンショットに象徴されるように「彼のようなポジションにいる選手には必要な傲慢で、自信にあふれた態度がある。その傲慢さを証明させる腕もある」とベテランのフレッド・ファンクは言う。
その自信を象徴しているのが彼のイニシャル「AK」を刻印したド派手なベルト。そういえば、以前タイガーとの「不仲説」が流れたローリー・サバティーニーもドクロ柄のド派手なベルトで一目置かれてますね。。。確かにベルトは自己主張するには目立つし、いいアイテムなのかもしれないですね。
キムは帽子をとれば坊主頭。いかにも昔は「いじめっこ」で悪いことやってたような顔してますよ（偏見？）。そういった荒々しい性格も、このツアーで勝ち残るには必要だということでしょう。
そういえば、この大会でロッコ・メディエイトが全英オープン出場を確定させたようですね。海を渡ってもきっと多くのギャラリーの後押しを受けることでしょう！
