先週の「AT＆Tナショナル」2日目に上位に進出し、結果7位タイと健闘したダニー・リー。プロ転向後、初のトップ10入りを果たしました。大会終了後、すぐに飛行機に乗って大西洋を渡り欧州ツアーのスコッティッシュ・オープンに出場する予定だったのですが、急遽予定を変更したとのこと。先週のトップ10入りで得た次週大会出場権利を使い、アメリカのPGAツアー「ジョンディア・クラシック」に出場することになったそうなのです。
ここにきてようやくエンジンがかかり始めた韓国生まれ、ニュージーランド国籍のリー。来週の全英オープンを前に上位陣が欠場する中、更なる飛躍のチャンスが回ってきました。

マスターズでは石川遼と練習ラウンドを回るなどで「若手トリオ（もう一人はロリー・マッキロイ）」の一角として注目されたリー。しかしマスターズ後、プロ転向してからは成績がいまひとつ。先週のAT&Tナショナルまで6試合に出場し最高成績が13位タイ。
リーにとって今年の最大の目標は来年のPGAツアー出場権を獲得すること。そのためには・・・
１．賞金ランキングでトップ125位以内に入りシード権を獲得するか
２．昨年の賞金ランキング150位の選手の賞金額（$537,958）以上を獲得して優先出場権を獲得するか
AT&Tナショナルでの好成績で通算獲得賞金は$350,054になり、来季のシード権も現実的なものになってきたのです。そして出場すべき試合の選択肢も広がったのです。
リーに与えられた試合出場数は推薦枠の7試合と全米アマ優勝者、そしてジョニー・ウォーカー・クラシック優勝者に与えられる試合のみ。

ジョンディア・クラシックが入ることで推薦枠の一つを使わずに賞金を稼げるチャンスが増えたことになります。ヨーロッパ行きの飛行機を急遽変更してまで出場する価値はあるはず。
「（AT&Tナショナル終了後）スコットランド行きの飛行機に乗るために急ぎましたが、こうなったからにはキャンセルせざるを得ません。これでもう1試合出場できるわけですし」とリー。
単純に計算すると、優先出場権を獲得するために残り4試合で約180,000ドルを稼がなければいけないのですが、ポイントは今週のジョンディアとWGCブリヂストン・インビテーショナルになりそうです。
というのもWGCブリヂストンは予選落ちのない大会で、賞金を荒稼ぎできるチャンスなのです。昨年の例で言うと79位（ブービー）に入った選手でさえ31,250ドル、トップ10に入れば（昨年の10位タイのハンター・メイハンの例で言うと）133,000ドルの賞金が入るのです。予め賞金を獲得することは期待できるのですが、8月初旬のWGCブリヂストン時に余計なプレッシャーをかけないためにも、リーとしてはなんとしてでも今週のジョンディアで好成績を残すことが重要になってくるのです。
「今調子が良いし、先週も良い内容でした。賞金額に関しても、今の時点ではあまり考えないようしています。このようなチャンスが回ってきて興奮しています。世界トップの選手たちとまたプレーできることが何よりも嬉しいです」
大丈夫、世界トップ中の「トップ」はジョンディアには出てこない！リーにとっては今週が最大のチャンスになりそうですね。
