今回の欠場は片山自身が最も悔しいとは思うのですが、海の向こうのどこかでグレッグ・ノーマンも頭を抱えているかもしれません。ノーマンは今年10月に行われる全米代表VS世界代表の試合「プレジデンツ・カップ」の世界代表チームのキャプテンで、片山もメンバー入り目前まで来ているのです。
世界代表チームの選出方法は
・全米プロ選手権終了時のワールドランキングからトップ10名
・ノーマンのキャプテン推薦枠２名
の計12名が選出されます。現在、片山は世界選抜のワールドランキングで12位に付けていて、10位のロバート・アレンビーまで0.21ポイントと迫っているのです。
