Q：率直に、今の気持ちをお聞かせください。
「素晴らしい体験ができたし、まだ何が起こったのか理解しきれていません。まず、ターンベリーという素晴らしい、私が最も好きなコースの一つでこのようなプレーができたこと。そして、その過程でトム・ワトソンという偉大なプレーヤーと対戦できたこと。トム・ワトソンは僕が幼い頃に憧れていた選手。全英オープンで対戦する選手だなんて夢にも思っていなかった。このような瞬間に立ち会えていたことを素直に喜びたい。自分が参加できていたことが信じられない」
Q：プレーオフを決めた18番でのバーディパット。振り返ってみると、あの一打が一番大きかったのでは？
「あのパットはこれまでのゴルフ人生で最も重要なパットだった。もちろん、これからもあれ以上のパットがあることを願っているけど、今の段階では間違いなくNo.1だね」
Q：これまで54回メジャーに出場、今回勝てた勝因は？
「ターンベリーの施設もアクセスも素晴らしく、ここに来てから順調に準備ができた。練習ラウンドからずっとショットの調子が良く、チャンスがあることは感じていた」
Q：最後、トム・ワトソンとのプレーオフで多くは彼を応援していたことに気付いていましたか？
「昨日はリー・ウェストウッドとのラウンドで、彼が地元の扱いを受けていたからね。トムとのプレーオフもそれは感じたから、そこまで気にはならなかった。僕は前からそういう『役割』をしてきましたからね。目立たないというか、人に気付かれないというか・・・。でもそれでいいんだよ。この1勝でそれも変わるかもしれないし」

何度か紹介しているスチュワート・シンクのTwitterですが、そもそもこのようなネットのツールを使い始めたきっかけは彼自身「タイガーやフィルのようにテレビ画面を通じて自分のキャラクターが視聴者に伝わらないと思った」からなのです。このインタビューでも言っていましたが、シンクはPGAツアーの選手の中でも決して目立つ方ではないです。それなら自分のキャラクターにあった形でファンとコミュニケーションを取っていきたい・・・そういう思いがあったそうです。
それでも、この優勝インタビューを聞く限り、彼の謙虚で控え目な姿勢や目立たない中にも自分のプレーには絶対的な自信を持っている選手であることは伝わったのではないかと思いました。
