11週間前に第２児を出産したばかりの39歳、マシュー。淡々と、そしてまるでその雰囲気を楽しむようにラウンドしていたマシューの姿は先々週のトム・ワトソンのそれとどこかかぶるような・・・。見ている方が幸せになれる、そんなマシューの風貌でした。

「本当に信じられない。最後も涙が出てきて・・・。まだ実感が沸きません」
（今日のプレーの内容について）
「今日はそれほど良いプレーができていた訳ではないんです。後半に入ったところで肝心なパットを沈めることができて、13番、14番のバーディパットが大きかったです。13番のバーディは上手く打てました。」
（出産をしたばかりで「兼業」プロですが、改めて母親になったことがゴルフにも良い影響を与えたか？）
「これまでと比べて、冷静にプレーできるようになったと思います。これまでだったら怒っていたところで気持ちをコントロールできるようになったのかと・・・。旦那（キャディのグラハムさん）は賛成しないかもしれないけど（笑）、コースに出ても冷静になれるようになりました」

「ティグランドからグリーンまで、どこに行っても声をかけてくれるファンがいて、最後の18番グリーンに上がってくる時は涙が止まりませんでした。最後の2パットは涙をこらえるのに大変でした」
