しかし、例外として、ハザード内で打った後、次がまた同じハザードからだった場合はハザード内の砂や土をならすのはOKだそうなのです（分かりにくいですね...）。大前提として、次のショットのライがよくなったり、ボールの位置が変わったり、またスイングの場所が変わったりしてしまうのはNGだそうです。
こんな複雑なルールがあるとは知らず、マッキロイはこの一件を確認せずにラウンド後にスコアカードをサインしてすぐに帰ってしまったのです。慌てたオフィシャルたちは彼の携帯に電話。しかし、よりによって番号が間違っていたのです！
ようやく連絡が取れて、マッキロイがコースに戻ってきたのが午後8:40。そこからオフィシャルたちと一緒にリプレーを見て、何が起きたのかを証言したとのこと。そして彼がハザード内で砂を蹴ったのは次のショットを有利にさせるものではなかったとして、無事ノーペナルティで解放されたそうなのです。
若いから犯してしまったミスなのか、それとも単なる不注意なのか・・・。いずれにしろ、3日目以降またコースに出られていてよかったですね。
