マスターズ開幕まであと４時間。
今年マスターズデビューを飾る選手は総勢19名。中には「あれ？初めて？」と思う選手もいますが、過去の傾向を見る限りルーキーたちにとって厳しいデータがあるようです。
過去72回のマスターズで初出場でいきなり優勝をしたのは3名のみ。3名とは言っても最後に大快挙を達成したのがちょうど30年前のファジー・ゼラー。残りの2人はこの大会が始まった1934年（ホートン・スミス）と翌年（ジーン・サラゼン）。なので数字上は3名ですが、実質はゼラー一人と考えられるのではないでしょうか。
でもなぜかルーキーたちには毎年淡い期待を抱いてしまうのも事実。特に今年のルーキー陣は粒揃い！
「経験」が最大の武器といわれるオーガスタでも期待できそうなルーキーTOP5をリストアップしてみました。

5位：今田竜二
「結果はどうであれ、とにかく楽しんできます」。常に前向きな今田。マインドだけは間違っていないでは･･･。
天気が悪くなって飛距離勝負になってしまうと分が悪いが、グリーン周りの勝負なら世界でも引けを取ることはないでしょう！
4位：オリバー・ウィルソン
チャールズ・ハウエルIII、ヴォーン・テイラーは今年のフィールドに入っていないが、オーガスタ州大で大学ゴルフを経験したウィルソン（イギリス）は地元の歓声を浴びることでしょう。地の利を生かせるか･･･。
3位：アンソニー・キム
初めてなんですね・・・。昨年のライダーカップであれだけ目立った活躍をしていたのでもうベテランの域にあるかと思いきや、今年が初出場なんですね。
才能は認めるし、昨年PGAツアー2勝と実績も十分なのだが、開幕戦のメルセデス選手権で2位タイに入って以来、ケガや病気で活気のあるキムの姿が見られていません。遠征の連続が答えているのかもしれないですね（ハワイの後はアメリカ⇒マレーシア⇒オーストラリア⇒アメリカ（アリゾナ）⇒フロリダ）。
2位：ロス・フィッシャー
近年、確実に世界ランクを上げている一人（現在32位）。最近ではWGCアクセンチュアマッチプレー選手権で準決勝まで進出、4位に終わった。トップレベルでのゴルフができることは証明済。
1位：ロリー・マッキロイ
同じハリウッドでも北アイルランドの「Holywood」出身。タイガー・ウッズでさえ一目置く才能は確かなもの。憧れの選手は「タイガー・ウッズ」。部屋の壁に貼ってあるタイガーのポスターを毎日見ながらプロになる夢を追いかけたとか。
