こんにちは、マスターズ・トーナメントが開催されるジョージア州オーガスタにいます。日曜日に到着し18ホール回ったのですが、コースは完璧な状態です。月曜日も練習し、火曜日も天気次第ですが恐らく回るでしょう。水曜日はコースには出ずに練習だけして、すぐに帰宅して初日に向けてゆっくり休みします。この（メジャー大会での）一連のルーティーンは2006年のロイヤルリバプール（全英オープン）から取り入れていて、良い結果に結びついています。
当たり前ですが、今年最初のメジャーということで、大いに盛り上がっています。自分のゴルフには自信を持って望めそうですし、（コーチの）ハンク・ヘイニーとも充実した練習ができました。特にこれといって取り組んだものはありません。全て微調整のレベルです。
その理由は、実際にコースに出てみるまで、どのような状態で何が必要になるのかが分からないからです。皆さんもご存知の通り、コースの状態は木曜日から日曜日にかけて大きく変化します。これが分かったのも過去の経験からです。その年によってどう変化するかも分かりません。ここ2年間は天候に恵まれず、チャレンジングなセッティングでした。今週は好天が続いてくれれば良いのですが...。
今年は2アイアンと5番ウッドを持っていきます。練習ラウンドを回った後にどちらをバッグに入れるかを決めます。4番ホールがどのようになっているかによって、どちらのクラブを入れるかを決めようと思います。
オーガスタ・ナショナルでは特にこれといって好きなホールはありません。全18ホールが好きだからです。それぞれが全く違う特徴があります。
水曜日のパー3トーナメントは出場しません。2005年まで毎年出場していたのですが、朝練習ラウンドを終えてから自分のティタイムまで数時間待たされます。とても長い一日になりますし、本番の準備に影響しかねません。きっとまた出場する日が来ると思います。特に（長女）サムや（長男）チャーリーがもう少し大きくなって、僕のキャディをできるようになったらね。
チャーリーはクラブは触っていますが、まだ持つことはできません。サムはハイハイするようになるまでクラブは握りませんでした。まだクラブを振ってもいません。ボールを投げる方が好きみたいです。
（先々週のアーノルド・パーマー・インビテーショナルを優勝し）少しでも勢いがある状態でマスターズに臨めることはプラスだと思います。ベイヒルでの勝利はハンクと積み上げてきたものや膝の手術をしてから続けてきた努力が報われた気がしました。正直、これまでの勝利と同じ感覚でした。唯一の違いは勝った後、左膝に痛みが走らなかったくらいです。
昨年の今頃は、とにかくマスターズを何とか乗り切ることしか考えていませんでした。今年とは比較になりません。去年はACL（前十字靱帯）が無く軟骨を損傷していました。（マスターズの）翌週に手術をしました。今年は膝に力を入れることができますし、左足に体重を乗せることができます。
世界No.1であり続けていることについて、どういう心境かを聞かれることがあります。当たり前ですが、自分のパフォーマンスには誇りを持っています。いいプレーをすれば、ランキングは自ずと付いてくるものです。堅実に成績を残していることの証だと思っています。

ということで、順調に来ているようですね。こういう選手の生の声（本当は別の人が書いているのかもしれないけど）を聞けるのは嬉しいですよね。メディアを通してだとどうしても余計なフィルターが入ってしまって、変な風に伝わってしまうことが多いですから...。
